Summary of Nexon EV Review

Though the Tata Nexon EV looks similar to the Nexon petrol or diesel version, there are visible changes all over. You will easily differentiate between the electric car and the ICE car. Thanks to the blue elements and the EV badge on the Nexon EV.

Tata-Nexon-Interior

The Nexon EV looks stylish with rugged looks, and the interior looks familiar but updated. There is no traditional gear lever. Instead, there’s a dial that lets you choose between Neutral, Reverse, Drive, and Sports Mode.

Comfort Level & Quality

The seating comfort is excellent for all the passengers in the car. There is ample space in the rear cabin with adequate thigh support and plenty of headroom. The quality of the fabrics and even the plastics used on the dashboard feel premium.

Nexon EV Performance

Nexon EV is easy to drive, and the ride quality is brilliant. If you want a sudden burst of power, all you have to do is turn the dial to “Sports mode.”

Even in the “Drive Mode,” this electric car from Tata Motors does a tremendous job. Tap the throttle, and it moves effortlessly.

As long as you don’t require some burst of power, the “D” mode works very well. When you need more power, you know what to do! Turn the dial to “S”  mode.

While in Sports Mode, the Nexon EV does 0-100 km per hour in less than 10 seconds.

The Nexon EV has so much torque that you will experience a wheel spin while cornering at high speed. The brakes are solid and just right, and the car stays firm throughout the ride.

Take the car for the test drive, and you will realize the Nexon EV can be your best city car.

Nexon EV Range

Tata Motors claims Nexon EV range of 312 km, but you can expect about 216 km in the city limits and about 201 km on the highway. Moreover, driving conditions, passenger load, elevation changes, and other factors determines how far an electric car can go on a full charge.

The EVs deliver their best range in city driving than on the highway. That’s because the constant start-stop driving in town maximizes the effective regenerative breaking.

Tata Nexon EV Crash Test

At the time of writing this article, there was no data available for the Tata Nexon EV crash test.

However, The Tata Nexon (petrol & diesel variants) was the first “made in India, sold in India” car to achieve Global NCAP’s coveted “five stars” crash test rating. The Nexon scored 5 stars for adult occupant protection and 3 stars for child occupant protection.

Tata NEXON (ICE) Crash Test Video

Considering these scores, we can safely assume that the Nexon EV crash test results would be similar. Moreover, Tata Motors has a reputation for building cars that passes crash tests with flying colors.

The above video shows Tata Nexon’s fuel-powered car’s Global NCAP crash test result. You can also refer to Global NCAP’s Tata Tigor EV crash test.

What to expect from Tata Nexon EV?

Whether driving the Nexon EV in the Drive Mode or Sport Mode, you will find no reason to complain about its performance. This car has enough power and torque to zip through the traffic. The interiors are top-notch, and the fit and finish look premium.

Tata-Nexon

The Nexon EV has regenerative technology. When you slow down the car, the motor works as a generator and recharges the battery in the process. This makes the EV give more range in city driving than highway driving.

The running cost per kilometer is a little more than Re 1, and that’s where the EV shines.

No doubt, the Nexon EV is value for money if you can afford it.

However, there are specific issues that you may face while owning an electric car. For example, there are not enough EV charging facilities on the highway, so you cannot take your EV on a long drive.

Even if you find an EV charging station, it takes a minimum of 60 minutes to charge the electric car. So you cannot rely on EV for emergency travel.

Tata Nexon Competitors & Alternatives

The Nexon EV falls in the price bracket of Rs. 14.24 Lakh to 16.85 Lakhs ex-showroom price. While this electric car from Tata Motors is the best in the segment, you have other options in a higher price bracket.

For example, you have Hyundai Kona Electric that falls in a price bracket of Rs. 23.77 Lakh to 23.96 Lakh, and the MG ZS EV falls in a price bracket of Rs. 20.99 Lakh to Rs. 24.18 Lakh all ex-showroom price.

While both the competitors have higher battery capacity with loads of features, they have their own merits and demerits.

If you are looking for an electric car that costs much less than Nexon EV, consider Tata Tigor EV.

Final Word

Tata Motors has more than 70% share in the electric car market, and the major contributor to it is the Nexon EV. It is not only stylish and powerful, but it also has loads of features.

The Nexon EV is the best car for the city drive, especially when you drive to your workplace and back home. The running cost is little more than Re 1 per kilometer, contributing to considerable savings in the long run.

The only drawback is that you cannot take the Tata Nexon EV on a long drive. Even if you find an EV charging station en route, charging the electric car to the full takes at least an hour.

If you plan for an electric car for a city drive, nothing like Tata Nexon EV.
